The Avantgarde’s unique “a la carte” button is an alternative to brewing with one of the 4 programmable brewing buttons. Just press the a la carte button, use the rotary dial to select the brewing volume and strength, and voila – a spur of the moment customized drink. |

Automatic Milk Frothing System |
|
The included FrothXpress Plus system eliminates the need to steam milk the traditional way. It includes a special nozzle, hose and milk container that replace the built-in steam wand. When the frothXpress Plus is attached, the Avantgarde begins to draw milk out of the container and into the machine where it is heated, frothed, and then dispensed onto the coffee drink. You may also use the standard steam wand for frothing smaller quantities of milk. |

Dual Heat Exchange |

You can switch between brewing the espresso and frothing the milk instantly, allowing for faster service. This is possible because the Avantgarde has dual heat exchange, allowing you to switch with the press of a button. This makes the S9 Avantgarde ideal for use in high use areas such as break rooms as well as being the ultimate espresso machine for entertaining at home. |

Separate Funnel For Pre-Ground Coffee |

Do you have someone in the crowd who wants decaffeinated coffee, but you only have caffeinated beans in the hopper? No problem. A separate funnel on top of the machine accepts pre-ground coffee of any type. Simply press a button on the control panel and the machine will by-pass the coffee grinder and use the pre-ground coffee instead. |

Dual-Frother PLUS Milk Frothing Tip |

For frothing and steaming smaller amounts of milk (for one or two cups) the Dual Frother Plus is fast and easy to use. It features two settings: one for latte (steaming milk) and one for cappuccino (steaming and frothing milk). Just push the steam button and immerse the Dual-Frother into your milk pitcher for immediate and continuous action. |

Hot Water Dispenser |
|
As long as the machine is turned on hot water can be instantly dispensed. This is a nice feature for teas, hot chocolate, or other hot beverages that need hot water. Many users make a shot of espresso and then add hot water to make a "Cafe Americano", which is a popular drink. |

Brew System With Special Pre-infusion Cycle |
|
The Avantgarde uses an advanced automatic brew system. As the heart of the automatic espresso machine it accepts freshly ground coffee from the built-in coffee grinder. It tamps the coffee perfectly, pre-soaks the grounds with a special "pre-infusion" step, brews the coffee, and then dumps the used coffee grounds into the internal dump box. Once the brewing cycle has been completed it resets itself for the next cup of coffee. |

Professional Quality Conical Coffee Grinder With 6 Settings |

A professional quality, conical type burr grinder is built-in. When the brew button is pushed the grinder automatically begins grinding the exact amount of coffee beans based on the amount of coffee the machine is going to brew. Conical burr grinding mechanisms are heavy duty and are usually found on more expensive coffee grinders. They consist of cone shaped grinding wheels that turn slowly to precisely grind the beans consistently without burning them. |

The built-in water tank holds enough water to produce approximately 60 espressos or 18 large cups of crema coffee. Refilling the water tank is easy by adding water while it's still on the machine or by removing it and filling it at the water tap. The tank has an easy-grip handle making removal easy. Unique Clearyl Water Care System |
|
The water filtration system takes chlorine out, eliminates bad taste, and eliminates the need to decalcify machine components. A special electronic change indicator signals when the Clearyl water filter needs to be changed. The electronic Clearyl cartridge change indicator makes sure that you always have the best water possible. |

Located under and in front of the unit is a removable drip tray that serves two functions. First it serves as a place to put coffee cups during the brewing process, while catching any spills. The internal dump box catches all of the spent coffee grounds left over from the brewing process. Its large capacity will hold up to 16 spent coffee portions. It removes for easy cleaning and will automatically let you know when it needs to be emptied. |

The S9 Avantgarde keeps track of how many beverages the machine made. It counts the number of drinks made for each cup preset. |

Automatic Cleaning Cycles |
|
Automatic cleaning cycle indicator prevents coffee oil build-ups in the brew chamber. A short 10-minute automated cleaning program with clear instructions in the LED display system insures clean inner parts and coffee that will never taste oily or rancid. No inner parts need to be removed. The display will automatically remind you to clean the machine after approx. 200 cups of coffee. |

You can also clean the Avantgarde at any time by pushing the self-clean button, which flush the brew system with hot water. Both the Automatic Self Clean and Manual Self Clean eliminate the need to remove the brew system for routine cleaning which is common on many other automatic espresso machines. |

Automatic Water Level Sensor |

The S9 Avantgarde will tell you when you are out of water. If you are brewing coffee and the machine determines it’s out of water, it will stop brewing and an indicator light will come on. Once the water tank has been refilled, the Avantgarde will resume its brewing cycle where it left off! |
