Although Cuisinart® has had a model called the Grind & Brew™ for some time, they have redesigned and greatly improved this new version. It now sports a new Italian design with subtle curves that creates the perfect look for today's gourmet kitchen. Among low cost combination grinder and coffee makers on the market, we would have to say the new Grind & Brew is worthy of your attention.

How easy is it to have wonderful tasting coffee derived from freshly ground coffee beans? With the Grind & Brew it's easy. Simply place your favorite coffee beans into the coffee bean hopper, close the lid, and turn on the power. The grinder will immediately begin grinding the beans to the perfect consistency, then it will automatically dispense the grounds into the coffee basket. Brewing begins shortly thereafter. That's it. Convenience, great tasting coffee without the mess, and all of this in one compact coffee maker. If you wish to use pre-ground coffee instead of whole coffee beans, you may disable the automatic grinder function at the press of a button.

We tested the Grind & Brew and felt that for the money, its performance, quality, and price were up to par. Unlike many coffee maker and grinder combos, the new Cuisinart Grind & Brew is the easiest to clean and maintain. We like the fact the entire coffee grinding chamber and lid easily lifts from the top of the coffee maker and that it can be placed in the dishwasher. Removal and replacement of this component could not be easier and faster.

One important feature that most coffee makers lack is adequate water dispersion over the coffee grounds. The showerhead In the Grind & Brew has been designed so water is evenly dispersed over all of the grounds in the coffee basket. The result is better flavor, better temperature of brewed coffee, and no wasted coffee grounds.

Controls - The Grind & Brew coffee maker features a digital clock and timer control that allows for automatic brewing and grinding up to 24 hours in advance. You can program the Grind & Brew to begin grinding your coffee beans and brewing the night before so you can wake up to a wonderful cup of coffee. Simply place your coffee beans into the grinder, put water in the reservoir, and set the timer. The Grind & Brew will take it from there. The timer will automatically turn the coffee maker off as well, and you can program this to occur in one hour increments up to four hours.

1-4 Cup Setting - If you wish to make a smaller pot of coffee between 1-4 cups, the Grind & Brew has a feature that will ensure your coffee tastes as well as a full pot of coffee. Press the "1-4 Cup" button on the control panel and the machine will double heat the small amount of water needed to ensure the coffee is as hot as that expected from a larger pot of coffee.

Convenient Coffee Filter Access - The permanent GoldTone coffee filter can be accessed and removed from the machine by pushing the release lever for the lid located on the left side of the housing. The filter holder is also removable for cleaning. You may use either the GoldTone filter or paper filters.

Brew Pause System - The Grind & Brew allows for removal of the carafe during mid brew for those who just can't wait for the full pot! The filter basket automatically stops the coffee flow when the carafe is removed for up to 30 seconds without it dripping onto the warming plate; resuming again once it is replaced.

Non-Stick Carafe Warmer - The carafe warmer will keep your coffee at the right temperatures for up to 4 hours before automatically shutting off and it is coated with a non-stick surface for easy cleaning of dried drips of coffee.

Built-in Stainless Steel Blade Grinder - The built-in coffee grinder is neatly tucked into the back left corner of the unit. Access is gained by lifting the lid on top. The grinding chamber is protected by a see-through plastic lid. Remove this to pour in your favorite coffee beans. The grinder uses high-strength stainless steel cutting blades for precise grinding of the beans. It is recommended by Cuisinart that you remove the grinding chamber and rinse after each use. But, we found it could be left in place for several uses before rinsing under the faucet.

Built-in Water Filtration - The anti-chlorine action of the filter will give the coffee a more delicate flavor. Good coffee starts with good water. Each filter lasts for two months or 60 pots, and they are easily replaceable. The use of the filter is optional, as it is not required to brew coffee. It can be removed from the reservoir if you wish.
