Features
It's called the Classic for a reason. The Gaggia Classic has been around for more than 10 years and the quintessential, classic home espresso machine. It has the track record, thoroughbred statistics, and history to back it up. It also has the Gaggia name behind it, one of the most respected names in the espresso industry. Gaggia is responsible for many firsts in the business, including the first reliable high pressure espresso system to produce modern day espresso with crema. The Classic is in many ways the embodiment of Gaggia's long success in the industry.
From the outset you know you have a serious machine. Gaggia takes great care to make sure the outside of the machine looks serious and high quality, and it doesn't stop at the outer skin. The Gaggia Classic features one of the heaviest portafilters in the consumer machine world, which is made of marine grade brass with chrome plating. Standard 58mm filters are used to provide ample room for brewing rich, full espresso. The grouphead is also heavy gauge marine brass with chrome plating, which provides excellent temperature stability, something borrowed from the commercial machines.
Deeper inside you notice another commercial-grade feature - the 3 way solenoid valve, which provides immediate pressure release from the grouphead once you complete your espresso pull, allowing you to remove the portafilter and prepare your next shot, instantly.
Inside you'll find a boiler surrounded by heating elements drawing 1370 watts of power. This provides for quick warm up times, but more importantly, lightning quick recovery times, allowing you to pull shot after shot without little wait time. You also find brass lines and high-grade connections inside, all signs of Gaggia's serious attention to detail, quality and longevity.
The Gaggia Classic is for many the epitome of the perfect home espresso machine. Refined over the years, it is proving its durability and performance with every new owner. We highly recommend it.
Simple To Use Controls - The machine features large pro-quality rocker-type switches that will last the lifetime of the machine. The first switch located on the left turns the machine on or off. The integrated light indicates when the power is on. Push the Classic brew switch located on the far right to begin the brewing cycle and then turn the switch off when the desired amount of espresso has been dispensed. Push the steam switch in the middle to heat the boiler to steam temperature, and then turn the steam valve to release steam from the steam wand. A light indicates when the machine is at the correct operating temperature for either brewing espresso or the production of steam.
Enhanced Milk Frothing Tip - If you want hot water for any reason, be it Hot Chocolate, Tea or Americanos it is very easy to do. Just turn on the pump (brew) switch and open the steam knob. Hot water will start to stream out.
Heavy Duty Portafilter and Filter Baskets - The Gaggia Classic features one of the heaviest portafilters in its class. Made of heavy marine grade brass, and covered with a chrome plating, it helps maintain thermal stability in your drink preparation, which gives you the best espresso possible. The Gaggias use commercial-standard 58mm filter baskets made of stainless steel.
Removable Water Reservoir - Made of shatter resistant ABS plastic, the 72 oz water reservoir is removable for cleaning and can also be filled fromthe top of the machine, even during operation. The water volume is easily seen from almost any angle.
Heated Cup Stacking Surface - The Gaggia Classic has a heated cup stacking service that allows you to preheat your cups before serving your beverages. Warm cups are desired in making perfect espresso because you are dealing with very small volumes of liquid, which can be cooled off rapidly if poured into a cold cup.
Removable Drip & Cup Tray - The drip tray is made of durable plastic and removes for easy cleaning and the cup tray is made of polished stainless steel.
Instant Hot Water Dispensing - The machine delivers instant hot water just by turning the steam knob during normal standby (brewing) mode and activating the brew switch. Hot water will be dispensed from the steam wand. Use hot water to make tea, Americanos, hot chocolate, or other hot beverages.
Powerful Pump System - The Classic features the highest pump pressure found on a Gaggia espresso machine - the vibratory pump built in can produce up to 17.5 BAR of pressure to deliver ultra even extraction rates from the machine. Even extraction is one of the cornerstones to producing perfect espresso.
High Performance Boiler - The machine features a high performance 1370-watt boiler that holds 3.5 ounces of water. While a small amount, the high performance of the boiler system allows for extremely fast heat up and recovery times by the machine.
Three Way Solenoid Valve - Common on commercial machines, but extremely rare on consumer machines, the Classics 3 way valve immediately releases pressure buildup from the grouphead and portafilter once you complete your shot, and reduces the water pressure on the coffee grounds. This produces dryer coffee grounds and makes it easier to discard the used espresso grounds (espresso puck) from the portafilter.
Safety System Built In - The boiler heating element features a thermal fuse that provides burnout protection if the boiler is operated dry or runs out of water.
Accessories - The machine comes complete with two stainless steel filter baskets for making either single or double shots of espresso, a Classic tamper, 7 gram measuring spoon, instruction manual, and interactive CD ROM user guide.
