Drawing from its roots, this retro-styled lever operated espresso machine is sure to create conversation. One look at its cylindrical body, beautifully wrapped in stainless steel, and your imagination will run wild envisioning espresso bars from a bygone era. Based on a design by Achille Gaggia, this lever operated espresso machine is easy to use, although it does take time and practice to pull the perfect shot. The reason for this is because you – the barista – control the rate at which water flows through the ground coffee. When the Achille is up to operating temperature, just raise the lever on the front of the machine and water begins to flow into the coffee grounds you’ve packed into the portafilter. As you lower the lever, pressure forces water through the coffee grounds and into the cup. This brewing process creates an unbelievable amount of thick, rich, golden crèma.
