LCD Digital Display |
The LCD digital display is a superb addition to this machine and virtually navigates you through operation of the machine. It will notify you of the various functions it is performing and will alert you to any necessary maintenance required. Alert topics include, but are not limited to, the following: coffee beans must be placed in the hopper, water is needed in the reservoir, the dump box is full, brew group is loose, and front door is open. |
Rapid-Steam® Technology and Hot Water Dispenser |
The Compact Digital features the patented Rapid-Steam® system, so there is almost no wait time to get ample steaming ability for building a first rate cappuccino or latte beverage. Where non- Rapid-Steam® super autos leave you waiting 45 seconds or longer for the steam pressure to build up, the Compact Digital has you ready to go in 10 seconds or less. The Compact Digital delivers ample, long running steam for building multiple drinks. The optional milk froth-aider tip supplied with the machine is specially designed to insure virtually perfect foam for cappuccino or lattes, even if you are a novice. The steam wand is located on the right front of the machine on a swivel joint, which allows you to place either a 12 oz. or 20 oz. frothing pitcher underneath. |
The Compact Digital provides instant hot water through the steam wand at the press of a button and the turn of a knob for making other hot beverages, including tea, hot chocolate, and Americanos. |
Multiple Programmability Options |
Set the machine to brew a short espresso, long espresso, or cafe crème with the help of three different brewing buttons. You can either use the factory presets or program the buttons to make your coffee/espresso your way. |
Programming is a snap: simply press and hold the button you want to program. As the machine starts brewing, just watch the amount that is dispensed into your cup, then release the brew button. When you release the button, the machine will remember whatever volume of brew produced during the programming as the preset volume for subsequent times that button is pressed. |
Want a single portion? Press any of the two brewing buttons once. Want a double? Just "double click" the button and the machine automatically sets up to brew two shots. |
The machine is equipped with sensors that tell when the water reservoir is empty or the coffee bean hopper has run out of coffee beans. If an important component is out of place, such as the drip tray, service door, brew group, or grounds dump box, a message will appear on the LCD display alerting you to this. It will also indicate when it's time to empty the used coffee grounds. |
Advanced Brew Group |
The Compact Digital uses an advanced automatic brewing system. Acting as the "heart" of the super automatic espresso machine, it accepts freshly ground coffee from the built-in coffee grinder or bypass coffee chute. It tamps the coffee perfectly, pre-soaks the grounds with a special "pre-infusion" step (described below), brews the coffee, and then dumps the used coffee grounds into the internal dump box. Once the brewing cycle has been completed, it resets itself for the next cup of coffee. The brew group is removable so cleaning and maintenance can be done. |
Pre-Infusion System |
The two-step pre-infusion cycle moistens and conditions the ground coffee, which maximizes flavor extraction to increase the thick crema on your espresso. The Compact Digital accomplishes this by infusing (or presoaking) the fresh coffee grounds with a dash of hot water for 2 seconds. Thereafter, it completes the brewing process by infusing the remainder of the predetermined water through the coffee grounds. The result is a superior cup of espresso or coffee. |
Advanced Dosing System |
This system allows you to adjust the amount of ground coffee the grinder dispenses into the brew system for each cup of coffee. You may set the coffee dosage between 6 and 9 grams. The average dose of ground coffee to make a shot of espresso is 7 grams. When you push the coffee brew button the grinder will automatically begin grinding the amount of grams you have specified (from 6-9 grams), and then places the ground coffee into the brew group before brewing begins. Being able to adjust the dosage allows you to make a stronger or weaker espresso (or cup of coffee) without altering the amount of water. |
Superior Quality Grinder Built In |
Super automatic espresso machines feature a built in grinder. The Compact Digital has a high quality conical burr grinder with a large, hardened temper steel cutting surface that delivers consistent, even and fine grinding, factors needed for producing a superior espresso. The grinders fineness level is adjustable, allowing for easy switching between grinding for espresso (finer grind) and café crème (coarser grind). The machines coffee bean hopper holds 7.5 oz of beans and features a tight-fitting lid to help keep your beans fresh. |
Separate Funnel For Pre-Ground Coffee |
This special feature allows the user to bypass the coffee grinder and dump pre-ground coffee into the machine. This is great if you wish to use a coffee that differs from the beans already in the machine. For example, if there is someone in the crowd who wants a decaffeinated espresso but there are only caffeinated espresso beans in the machine, simply pour pre-ground decaffeinated coffee into the bypass doser and the machine will do the rest! After brewing the pre-ground coffee the machine will reset itself to use the beans in the machine. You can use any type of pre-ground coffee for this procedure. |
Removable Water Reservoir |
The Compact Digital features a 44 oz capacity water reservoir that can be refilled while the machine is operating, or removed for easy filling at the water tap. The tinted, see through ABS plastic gives you an easy indicator of the amount of water left in the machine. |
Adjustable Coffee Dispensing Nozzle |
The nozzle can easily adjust between a small 2 oz. espresso cup and a large 4” high coffee mug, thanks to the adjustable height coffee-dispensing nozzle. |
Internal Dump Box |
The machine automatically dumps spent pucks of coffee into an internal dump box, which can be easily removed when necessary. It holds roughly 15 pucks before it needs to be emptied. |
Slide Out Cup Tray and Drip Pan |
A single drawer slides out from the front of the machine containing the cup tray and drip pan. It is made of durable plastic and cleans easily in the kitchen sink with water and mild detergent. The cup tray is made of polished stainless steel. |
Powerful Pump, Ingenious Brew System |
Like all Gaggia super automatics, the Compact Digital features a powerful vibratory pump rated at 15 BAR of pressure. The machine only requires a steady 9 BAR to produce first-rate espresso; the extra pressure is held in reserve to ensure the machines pressure can plow through the finest grinds and keep the pressure extremely even throughout the drink building process. One of the crucial things to good espresso is an even extraction rate, and the Gaggia's pump delivers. |
Smart Sensors |
The machine is equipped with sensors that tell when the water reservoir is empty or the bean hopper has run out of coffee beans. If an important component is out of place, such as the drip tray, service door, brew group, or grounds dump box, the LCD screen will display a message that tells you what needs to be done. |
