Programmable Clock/Timer |
Program the Krups FME4 to start up to 24 hours in advance, and it will start the same time every day. To program the timer using the brightly lit LED display, press the Program button briefly and then press the Hours/Minutes button. The digital display also features a clock, which you can set using the Program and Hours/Minutes buttons. |
Automatic Off |
You can set the Krups FME4 to automatically turn off 1-5 hours after the brew cycle is complete. It is factory-set to turn off after 2 hours. |
Dual Action Water Filtration |
The FME4’s vegetable-based, double-acting anti-chlorine and anti-scale filter purifies the water as it runs through the reservoir. Less chlorine allows your coffee’s flavor to shine through, and less lime scale allows for longer periods between cleaning and a more efficient, longer-lasting machine. To use the water filter, place the small, thimble-shaped filter in the base of the water filter holder. Screw the water filter holder onto the filter holder handle and use the rotary indicator on the handle to select the month in which you need to replace the filter. Then just set the unit, which is curved to fit only one way, into the depression in the bottom of the water reservoir. With hard water, you will need to change the filter after 80 brew cycles (approximately every 2 months); with soft water, change it after 120 cycles (approximately 4 months). The water filter is optional, but if you don’t use it, you will want to descale more often. |
Showerhead Dispersion |
The water in the Krups FME4 disperses through a cascading action that evenly coats the grounds and ensures a flavorful cup of coffee every time. |
Glass Carafe |
The glass carafe is plainly marked with water-level indicators and features a no-drip pour spout. The carafe and its attached black plastic lid are also dishwasher-safe. |
Brewing Complete Audible Signal |
The FME4 is set at the factory to give an audible signal when the brewing cycle is finished. A bell icon appears in the digital display window when you first plug in the machine. This icon tells you that the audible signal will sound when your coffee is finished brewing. You can turn off the signal and the bell icon using the 1-3 cup and Program buttons, and the bell will no longer appear. |
Empty Water Reservoir Indicator |
For added safety, the Krups FME4 automatically shuts itself off if the water reservoir hasn’t been filled. An empty reservoir icon also appears in the LED display. After you’ve filled the reservoir, turn off this icon by pressing the On/Off switch. |
One-Switch On/Off Design |
Push the On/Off rocker switch in the base of the machine to the right to make coffee without using the digital programmer. A blue light appears when the machine is on. Push the On/Off switch to the left if you want to stop the brewing process. |
Pause ‘n’ Serve |
Simply remove the carafe from the warming plate to get a cup of coffee before the brewing process is complete. A ball in the filter holder drops when the pot is removed, and the coffee stops flowing from the filter holder until you return the pot to the warming plate. |
1-3 Cup Aroma Setting |
If you want a smaller pot of coffee with the same great flavor, use the rocker switch at the base of the machine to select the 1-3 cup aroma setting option. Water is dispersed more slowly over the grounds with this setting, which better extracts the flavor from the bean. For larger pots, use the 4-MAX option. |
Electronic Limescale Detection |
Descale the Krups FME4 when “CALC” appears in the electronic display. If you use the duo action water filter described above, you should descale every 160 uses for hard water and every 80 uses for soft; if you don’t use the filter, descale every 80 cycles for soft water and every 40 cycles for hard. |
Removable Filter Holder |
Press the soft release button on the upper right of the machine to unlatch the removable, easy-clean, swing-away filter holder. Use the #4 cone-shaped filters that come with the Krups FME 4 for your coffee grounds, or purchase a permanent filter from Krups. |
Water Level Indicators |
A slim, magnified glass tube on the left side of the brewing unit tells you how much water is in the reservoir. |
Cord Storage |
Store the cord by pushing it into the back of the machine. |
