Programmable Clock/Timer |
Use the FMF5’s digital, brightly illuminated LED display to program the daily start time of the brew cycle up to 24 hours in advance. To program the timer, press the Program button briefly and then press the Hours/Minutes button. The machine turns off automatically after 20 minutes. The digital display also features a clock. Set the clock using the Program and Hours/Minutes buttons on the base of the machine. |
Dual Action Water Filtration |
The Krups FMF5’s vegetable-based, double-acting anti-chlorine and anti-scale filter purifies the water as it runs through the reservoir. Remove the chlorine and enjoy the full flavor of your coffee beans. Take out the lime scale, and you have a more efficient, longer-lasting machine that needs cleaning less often. To use the filter, place the thimble-shaped water filter into the filter holder, screw on the filter holder handle, and set the unit into the depression in the bottom of the water reservoir. The filter holder is curved to fit one way in the reservoir, and in the handle is a rotary indicator you can dial to select the month in which you need to replace the filter. With hard water, change the filter after 80 brew cycles (approximately every 2 months); with soft water, change it after 120 cycles (approximately every 4 months). Using the water filter is optional, but you will want to descale more often without it. |
Showerhead Dispersion |
The cascading water dispersion in the Krups FMF5 ensures more even extraction of flavor from your coffee grounds and a better-tasting cup of coffee. |
Thermal Carafe |
The double-walled, vacuum stainless steel thermal carafe maintains the flavor and temperature of your coffee for hours after brewing. However, you should remove the carafe from the base after brewing or a ball in the lid remains depressed and allows heat to escape. The screw-tight lid keeps the coffee hot – the Open and Close indicators on the cover let you know when the lid is tightly fastened. A thumb-operated latch on the top of the handle lets you open the spout for pouring. |
Brewing Complete Audible Signal |
The Krups FMF5 is factory-set to give an audible signal when the brewing cycle is complete. A bell icon appears in the digital display window when you first plug in the machine. This icon tells you that the audible signal will sound when the brewing is finished. You can turn off this signal and the bell icon using the 1-3 cup and Program buttons. |
Empty Water Reservoir Indicator and Auto Shutoff |
For added safety, the FMF5 automatically shuts itself off if the water reservoir hasn’t been filled. An empty reservoir icon also appears in the LED display. After you’ve filled the reservoir, turn off this icon by pressing the On/Off switch. |
One-Switch On/Off Design |
If you want to make coffee without using the digital programmer, push the On/Off rocker switch in the base of the machine to the right. A blue light appears when the machine is on. Push the On/Off switch to the left if you want to stop the brewing process. |
Pause ‘n’ Serve |
Simply remove the carafe from the warming plate to get a cup of coffee before the brewing process is complete. When you remove the carafe, a ball in the bottom of the filter holder drops and prevents the coffee from flowing into the carafe until you return the pot to the warming plate. |
1-3 Cup Aroma Setting |
Select the 1-3 cup aroma setting option using the rocker switch at the base of the machine to brew between 1 and 3 cups of coffee with the same great flavor. The machine will disperse the hot water more slowly over the coffee, which results in better extraction. For larger pots, switch to the 4-MAX option. |
Electronic Limescale Detection |
When it’s time to descale the machine, “CALC” appears in the digital display. If you use the duo action water filter described above, you should descale every 160 cycles for soft water and every 80 cycles for hard water; if you don’t use the filter, descale every 80 cycles for soft water and every 40 cycles for hard. |
Removable Filter Holder |
Press the soft release button on the upper right of the machine to unlatch the removable, easy-clean, swing-away filter holder. Use either #4 cone-shaped filters, which come with the FMF5, or purchase a permanent filter from Krups. |
Water Level Indicators |
A slim, magnified glass tube on the left side of the brewing unit tells you how much water is in the reservoir. |
Cord Storage |
Store the cord by pushing it into the back of the machine. |
