Touch-screen programming brings ease and sophistication to the Saeco Talea Touch Plus. Simple to operate, the Talea Touch Plus nonetheless is filled with customizing options and exclusive benefits – and with the considerably sized touch screen, it is easy to access and understand them. The touch screen does away with buttons, switches, and indicator lights, leaving only one knob for the Saeco Brewing System (SBS) below the screen.

The Talea Touch Plus does everything you need for a great shot of espresso. It stores, grinds, and tamps the beans before brewing them to perfection at your preferred strength. Using the stainless steel double boiler system, forget about wait time between brewing and steaming - the steam wand creates thick foam for cappuccinos and macchiatos, or you can connect the optional Saeco Milk Island to your machine for automatic frothing and steaming. The Talea Touch Plus has stylish silver housing - beautiful, durable, and ready to begin work in your kitchen.

The touch screen displays icons for steaming and three different drinks: espresso, coffee, and long coffee. A steam whistle indicates steaming, and the drinks are indicated by a small cup, a larger cup, and a tall cup, respectively. To brew, press the icon you want – this means you’ll always know exactly what the machine is going to produce. If you want two of that drink, press the icon twice in quick succession, and while the first shot brews, the grinder will grind for the second shot, cutting down on your wait time.
Some people find text easier to understand than icons on the touch screen. In that case, press the “show text” button beneath the coffee icons to change the images to text. For example, instead of showing a small cup for espresso, the screen will now read “espresso.” Next to the “show text” button is the date and time – press this if you need to reprogram your clock. To the right of the clock is the “go to menu” button, which allows you to enter programming.
The lightness and darkness of the icon cups on the touch screen indicates the strength of the brew. To change the strength to mild, medium, or strong, hold down the beverage icon for two seconds.
Step one of any complete brewing system is the correct grind. If the beans are ground too coarsely, the resulting brew will be weak and under-extracted. If the grind is too fine and powdery, the brew will be bitter and over-extracted. Another consideration is the grinder material – metal grinders are less durable than ceramic grinders. The Saeco Talea Touch Plus’s ceramic burr grinder produces 7.5 to 10.5 grams of ground coffee. You have the option of a fine, medium or course grind. Each time you brew, the burr grinder grinds the correct amount of beans needed for the drink.
The bean hopper keeps beans fresh, away from the damaging effects of moisture and air. It is made of clear plastic, so you can easily monitor how much you have left. Beans are stored in the bean hopper before they are ground.
Sometimes, you or one of your guests will prefer a blend other than what you have in the bean hopper. In that case, you can brew one drink at a time using pre-ground coffee in the bypass doser. Simply press and hold the icon corresponding to the type of drink you would like to brew (espresso, long coffee, or short coffee). Out of the options that appear, select “pre-ground coffee,” and the machine will brew using the grounds in the bypass doser.
With a double boiler system, there’s no wait time between brewing and steaming, and you can make drink after drink. Stainless steel heats quickly, cutting down on the machine’s warm up time. A boiler pressure safety valve and a double safety thermostat prevent the boiler from reaching excessive temperatures or pressures.
While other machines use residual heat from the boiler to heat the cup warmer, the Saeco Talea Touch Plus has an active, controllable cup warmer. It’s a good idea to brew your espresso into a warm cup – it helps preserve the espresso’s temperature, and prevents rapid cooling. You have the option of having the cup warmer always on, always off, or off while in stand-by. Some people prefer to heat their cups with hot water or in the microwave, in which case they would leave the cup warmer off, while others prefer the convenience of keeping their cups always warm and ready. No matter what you prefer, the cup warming surface is a great place to store your demitasse cups.
To keep your drink warm, and to cut down on drips and spills, it’s best if the espresso doesn’t drop a long way between the coffee spout and the cup. The cup should be directly beneath the coffee spout, which is why the light touch drip tray can be raised or lowered with the light touch of a finger. Place your finger on the top of the drip tray lever, and the tray moves down. Place your finger on the bottom of the drip tray lever, and the tray moves up.
Located directly beneath the touch screen, the SBS knob allows you to adjust the water pressure exerted on the grounds – even as the machine is brewing. Turn the knob to the right to make the brew stronger, or to the left for a milder brew.
To bring out the fullest flavors and aroma from each coffee, the Saeco Talea Touch Plus has a special pre-infusion or pre-brewing step, which moistens the grounds for a moment before brewing begins. The pre-brewing is set at “normal,” but you can adjust the settings to “strong” (which soaks the grounds longer) or “off,” if you wish to deactivate the pre-infusion step.
The steam wand allows you to produce rich, thick foam, and velvety steamed milk. To begin steaming, press the “steam” icon on the touch screen, select “steam” and open the steam wand until the steaming/hot water position is reached. Once you have finished steaming, let a little hot water run through the steam wand to clean out any milk residue that may be left inside, turn the knob to close the steam wand, and press “exit” to return to the menu.
Hot water dispensing is great for non-coffee drinkers – they can quickly enjoy tea, hot cocoa, cider, or other warm beverages. People also use the hot water dispenser for instant soup or oatmeal. For hot water, press the “steam” icon on the touch screen, select “hot water,” and open up the steam wand. Once you have enough water, turn the knob until it is in the rest position and press “exit” to return to the menu.
Great frothing and steaming takes a bit of practice. An option for those of us with a little less time on our hands is the Saeco Milk Island. It connects to the steam output on the Saeco Talea Touch Plus, then froths and steams milk automatically. Easy to clean and operate, many of our customers find it to be a useful accessory.
The 57 oz water tank can be removed and hand washed with soap and water. The machine will alert you when the tank needs refilling – use the handle to transport it easily to the sink, or flip open the water tank lid. Included with the machine is an Aqua Prima water filter, which removes impurities from your tap water. The machine will alert you when it needs to be replaced. Also included with the Talea Touch Plus is a water hardness test strip. This will ensure that you know the proper frequency at which to descale.
The machine is made of durable plastic, so all you have to do to keep it looking nice is wipe it down on occasion with a damp cloth. It's best not to use a damp cloth on the touch screen, though a dry cloth will do just fine. The removable drip tray can be hand washed with soap and water. On the right of the machine is the grounds drawer, which should be emptied and cleaned when it fills. To keep your steam spout functioning at optimum condition, remove the outer steam spout and clean. You should also remove and wash the steam spout support to keep your milk tasting fresh. Finally, the brew group can also be removed and cleaned with soap and water to prevent the natural buildup of coffee oils.
The Saeco Talea Touch Plus comes with an Aqua Prima water filter, water hardness tester, cleaning brush, measuring scoop, grinder adjustment key, and detailed owner’s manual.
