Simple to Use Controls |
The SL 70 features rocker-type switches. The first switch located on the left side of the control panel turns the machine on or off and has an orange indicator light. Push the coffee brew switch located in the middle to begin brewing, and then turn the switch off when your desired amount of espresso has been dispensed. Push the steam switch on the right side of the control panel to heat the boiler to steam temperature. The corresponding lights above both the brew switch and steam switch will turn green when the boiler is at the proper temperature for brewing espresso or steam production, respectively. Open the steam knob on the right side of the machine to dispense steam from the steam wand. |
Ample Steaming Power |
The Solis Crema SL70 is no slouch in the steaming department. The oversized boiler provides massive amounts of dry steam perfect for making the microfoam froth integral to intricate latte art. Independent testing shows you can froth 7 ounces of milk, enough for two cappuccinos, up to 160ºF in less than 40 seconds on a Solis Crema SL70 machine - one of the fastest in its class. The steam wand is made of stainless steel and uses a standard design, meaning it does not have a frothing-aid tip. Although these tips can be handy, most consumers find the standard tips lend them more control over the density and quantity of foam. They are also easier to clean with a damp cloth. The steam wand is located on the right front of the machine on a pivot joint, which allows you to place either a 12 or 20 oz. milk-frothing pitcher frothing pitcher underneath. |
Large Brass Boiler |
The SL Series machines feature a 9 oz, 1100 watt boiler system, which ranks as one of the largest in its class. Made of marine grade brass for ideal heat retention, the boiler is equipped with five thermostats including two thermal protection fuses to prevent accidental overheating, a thermostat for brewing espresso, and two thermostats for regulating steam temperature. |
Heavy Duty Filter Holder |
The portafilter is made of heavy cast brass which has been chrome plated, an ideal material for heat retention and consistent brewing. It also has a heavy-duty plastic grip so it’s easy to handle and hold. |
Crema Enhancing Stainless Steel Filter Baskets |
The Solis Crema SL70 comes with two stainless steel filter baskets, one for a single shot and one for a double shot of espresso. These filter baskets are among the best of any home espresso machine because they have been micro-etched to produce excellent espresso topped with a thick layer of crema. This crema, golden marbleized foam signifying that espresso has been brewed at the proper temperature and pressure, seals in espresso’s flavors and aromas for a robust, well-rounded shot. |
Espresso Pod Adapter |
The Solis machines are some of the best "pod capable" machines in their price range. Included with the Solis Crema SL70 is a special espresso pod adapter filter basket that provides superior results with almost any standard pod. The pods are inserted in place of coffee grounds. There is no grinding and no mess, just convenient and great tasting espresso! When you are finished brewing the espresso, simply remove and discard the espresso pod. |
Built-in Coffee Tamper |
The SL Series machines include a built in coffee tamper sized just right for the SL portafilter and filter baskets. This is conveniently located adjacent to the group head on the left. |
Large Removable Water Reservoir |
The 3 quart reservoir allows for large numbers of drinks to be made before refilling - ideal for entertaining. The water level is easily viewable from almost any angle due to the design of the machine. It can be refilled at any time, even when the machine is under operation. |
Large Cup Warming Surface |
The SL70 has a large cup warming area made of non-stick metal. Warm cups are an important part of making café quality espresso because you're dealing with very small volumes of liquid, which cools off rapidly when poured into a cold cup. |
Dual Height Drip Tray |
The Solis SL Series machines feature a deep drip tray and cup tray that can be adjusted between one of two heights, perfect for fitting larger cups for lattes and cappuccinos under the portafilter. It’s also removable for cleaning – just use warm water and non-abrasive detergent. |
Powerful and Quiet Pump |
The Solis Crema SL series machine features one of the best vibration pumps available today, and the quality of Swiss engineering and design is evident the moment you first use the machine - it is one of the quietest vibration pump machines on the market. Where many pump driven espresso machines will halt any conversation that’s taking place, you can almost whisper and be heard next to a Solis Crema SL 70. |
Steam Milk for a Latte, Cappuccino, or More! |
Once the machine is at brew temperature, press the steam button and wait for the indicator light above the steam switch to illuminate. When it lights up, the machine is at steaming temperature, so just open the steam knob to the right of the machine for instant dry steam. After finishing, close the steam knob and press the steam button again to exit out of steam mode. The stainless steel steam wand is easy to clean – just wipe it down with a damp cloth once you’re done to remove any milk residue. |
Easy Hot Water Dispenser |
The Crema SL70 also dispenses hot water out of the steam wand. When the machine is normal brewing mode, simply open the steam knob and activate the brew switch - water from the boiler will be automatically redirected through the steam wand and into your cup. Use hot water for pre-warming your espresso cup, making tea, hot chocolate, Americanos, or other hot beverages. |
