Listen, you can't complain too much when an electric grinder costs $20. It gets the job done, and is a great purchase if your budget is highly restrictive. But the inability to change grind sizes is a big drawback, and the blades give the coffee a slightly burnt flavor that conical burrs won't. I recommend this item for newbies on-the-go, but only if you're cool with "getting what you pay for." ... read more

My wife and I received this grinder as a gift overy three years ago. We had no mechanical problems at all with it. However, it did not grind evenly - some beans were finely ground while others were left in large chunks. It was also difficult to create the same level of grind day to day. I had read at WLL about the superiority of burr grinders and recetly purchased a Baratza Virtuoso. With this ... read more

I've had this machine for about 10 years. First impression and lasting, for obvious reqasons, is it sounds like an "angry" siren from a fire truck. Very ugly in the morning! After that, and after the long use, I had to put a short piece of steel packing strap in the grinding chamber because the ground coffee comming out of the burs had worn through the plastic chamber wall and was getting in th ... read more

Great, inexpensive machine. Only had for a few weeks but love it. I especially like that the grounds go in from the top and not the back of the grounds container like most. ... read more

It is a great grinder had it for a year, then on routine cleaning out in one of the heads in backward and could not get it out. I think it is a great grinder, but not user friendly. How is it possible that you put in a head wrong and you can't take it out. Poor machine construction. ... read more

after some initial testing I discovered that on the lowest grind setting was not sufficient attain the "golden rule" for my Gaggia Classic Machine when making a double shot of espresso. I called the phone number given to me by Whole latte love for the manufacturer, Capresso, and they sent me a new top burr (part). This fixed the problem so that I have the perfect grind every time for making "20- ... read more

I've had this grinder for a little over a year and have been happy with it. At first it wouldn't grind on the espresso setting. After several tries it starting working and hasn't been a problem since. On the fine setting it grinds plenty for a double espresso in 12 to 15 seconds. On a coarse setting it grinds plenty for a full pot of coffee within 15 seconds.
There is no static mess with the gl ... read more

I researched a burr grinder, not satisfied with a blade grinder because of uneven grinding and the risk for burning the beans from the heat of the blades. I didn't want to spend a small fortune on a machine but I also didn't want a piece of garbage that would give me trouble. I liked Breville's socially responsibility statement and as far as I could tell, it is manufactured in our country. I have ... read more

I think that this is an excellent machine, reasonably priced. The grind is consistent and a grind of 6 yields grounds similar to the ground coffee that Illy sells. ... read more

I bought this unit with expectations that with its price and Italian origin it would last nearly a lifetime. It was nice while it lasted but unfortunately a rock got caught in the works. The interior parts are made of plastic, and replacement parts are no longer available. I am now the proud owner of a nearly $300 paperweight. ... read more

I got this grinder with my Rancilio Silvia. Before purchase, I was a little concerned with some of the negative reviews, but after speaking with several people, and several sales-people, decided to try it. I have not been disappointed at all!
The tables that tell you how to set your grinder for various brews are close enough that I only had to do a very little micro adjusting to get a perfect ... read more

I have had this grinder for over a year. As other reviewers have commented, it does not do well for coarse ground coffee. It won't even go all the way to the most coarse setting. IMO it works best for espresso.
If the bean is roasted to FC, right before second crack or no more than 5 seconds into second crack, the grinder works pretty well. Most of the grind gets into the portafilter. However, ... read more

Great grinder, I have had mine for years. My only complaint is that it does not come with a container to catch the grinds. Directly into the Portafilter is a bit messy and requires clean up after each use. I use a container from an earlier grinder i had which fits perfectly underneath and easily can then be poured into your Portafilter with no mess to clean up. I strongly recommend providing this ... read more

I purchased the Rocky in a package deal with the Gaggia Classic just before Christmas and it works great and as advertised. I've always loved espresso coffee but have never owned a machine of my own. From all the information provided on this site and others I understood how important a good grinder is to making good coffee. The Rancilio Rocky is a great grinder and is really easy to use. ... read more
